North Penn First Responders Property Tax Credit
Supporting Those Who Protect Us: Volunteer Emergency Responders Tax Credit
Our community relies heavily on the selflessness of volunteer firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to keep us safe. To show our appreciation and to help recruit and retain these vital lifesavers, the North Penn School District has established a local property tax credit program for active emergency volunteers.
Authorized under Pennsylvania's Act 172 and Act 91, this program allows eligible volunteer first responders who own and occupy a home within Towamencin Township and the broader school district to receive up to $700 back on their school real estate taxes.
Who is Eligible?
To claim this local tax credit, volunteers must meet a few key requirements:
Active Service: You must be an active volunteer in good standing with a recognized volunteer fire company or nonprofit EMS agency serving the North Penn School District.
Performance Requirements: Eligibility is calculated using a point-based system managed by your agency's leadership, which tracks your involvement in emergency responses, training, meetings, and station events over the course of the year.
Property Ownership: The credit applies specifically to residential real estate that is owned and occupied by the active volunteer as their primary residence.
How the Credit Works
This program functions as a post-payment rebate to ensure accurate record-keeping:
Pay Your Bill: You pay your North Penn school property tax bill in full as usual.
Get Certified: Your fire chief or EMS supervisor verifies your active service points and submits an official certification.
Receive Your Check: Once your application is reviewed and approved by the district, a rebate check of up to $700 will be issued directly to you.
A Message from Your Tax Collector: If you are a volunteer first responder, thank you for your sacrifices. Please make sure you take advantage of this program—you've earned it.
